The recommended catch of Pacific Salmon for 2019 was set at 461,000 metric which is 30 percent more than the previous odd year in 2017 of 351,000 metric tons.

Russia's Pacific Salmon is compared on even and odd years due to the peculiarities of the biological cycles of fish. Pink Salmon is the main species harvested during the season with catch expectations to hit 293,000 metric tons - this is 63.5 percent of the total recommendation.

Other catch expectations include 116,000 metric tons of Chums, 41,000 metric tons of Sockeye, and 10,000 metric tons of Coho for 2019.

--- We are hearing vendors are ramping up for a big Salmon year as well, anticipating historical high levels of landings.

For Chum Salmon, Russian boats are telling us pricing would be $1000 less than last season per metric ton.

Last season boats pricing for Russian Chums were around $3800 to $4200 per metric ton CFR China.

Historically when harvest volumes are high, the quality of the fish go down mostly due to limited freezing capacities.

Expect this year to be no exception to this.

In fact, to combat refridgeration capacity issues, the head of the Russian Federal Agency of Fisheries recently stated Russia could restrict actual Pink Salmon harvest.

We reached out to our Russian processors and they haven't heard any confirmation on this yet.
