Recent Shrimp Quota Cuts to Drive Fishermen Out & Causing Speculative Purchasing Inshore Shrimp Fishery Quota Cut is likely to Drive many Fisherman out of the Fishery Less Shrimp will be Processed which will result in a Dramatic Economic and Labour Shift in the area the recently announced 2014/2015 Shrimp Quota Cuts are causing a lot of Speculative Purchasing Harsh Winter Conditions Hampering Maritime Shrimp Fishing making New Season Shrimp Unavailable until mid-May or later @DFO_MPO confirmed Sharp Quota Cuts for Inshore and Offshore Northern Shrimp Fisheries for 2014 to 2015 season Key Shrimp Fishery Areas 4, 5, 6, 7 had Quota Cut to 87,719 tons = 7% drop over the 2013/2014 Quota of 105,678 tons DFO also announced the Shrimp TAC in the Largest Area (area 6) will decreased by 20 % to 48,196 tons both Shrimp Fisheries have been expecting quota cuts after scientific surveys indicated stocks were declining The Biomass for the Northern Shrimp has dropped 27% #ShrimpQuotaCuts 17 Offshore Vessels w/ licenses to process Shrimp-at-sea got Majority of the Quota prior to the New Inshore Licenses the Inshore Shrimp Fishery's Quota was cut by 2/3 (12,000T). the Offshore Fishery's Quota was cut by 1/3 (6000T) the Substantial Inshore Quota Cut of the Shrimp Fishery is likely to Drive many Fisherman out of the Fishery less Northern Shrimp will be processed which will result in Dramatic Economic and Labour Shift in the area #QuotaCut Shrimp Quota Cuts are causing a lot of Speculative Purchases of the last of any remaining 2013 Inventories as a result of the Rush to Purchase any available Shrimp stocks in Cold Storages prices have already started to rise Shrimp Buyers are predicting Higher New Season Shrimp Pricing of $0.50 to $0.75/Lb USD across the board on all sizes extended winter weather & Ice Floes hampering the Maritime Shrimp Fishing Efforts for several more weeks Maritime Shrimp Fishing Efforts affected by weather could make New Season Shrimp Unavailable to mid-May or later
